Intercultural Communications

The aim of this workshop is to improve:
• Skills to communicate better with people from other cultures (colleagues and students) based on an understanding of how culture affects communication between people
• Communication skills with non-native speakers of English based on an understanding of why problems occur, and practical ways to avoid them.

By the end of the session you will have:
•An understanding of the differences between cultures, the reasons for this and the impact of this in the workplace.
•Skills to enhance their cross-cultural communication to ensure the best possible outcomes in multicultural and multilingual environments.
•An understanding of why problems can arise when people communicate in English and skills to easily adapt their language to ensure they are communicating as effectively as possible with non-native speakers.

This course is available to anyone working at the University who has to communicate with, or work alongside, people from other backgrounds and/or who speak other languages. Anyone interested in learning how to communicate more effectively in English. The next session will take place on 30th January from 9:30 to 12:30.
