Enabling Panopto in Teaching Spaces
As we prepare to return to teaching on campus, Digital Education have created the following short video as a reminder of how to enable Panopto in teaching spaces. We hope this is useful.

In addition, following a request from the SU, and in line with current accessibility legislation, from this academic year automatic captioning will be enabled by default on all videos uploaded to Panopto.
As you may be aware, automatic captioning is unfortunately NOT 100% accurate on any video service and as such the University recognises it is NOT feasible or expected that staff routinely check and edit all the transcripts of videos uploaded to Panopto. To that end, we have added to start of all videos on Panopto, the following guidance for students:
Automatic captioning has been enabled. These cannot be relied upon to be 100% accurate.
Please contact your tutor should any automated captions cause confusion.
See example here: Placeholder video with captions (Panopto).
As such, only reasonable efforts to correct errors spotted or raised by students is expected. For more information, see: Creating Accessible Video: Accessibility Toolkit (Youtube).
We are aware that in some cases, colleagues may have already created transcripts of their videos, which are more accurate than those created automatically. In these circumstances, it is understandably preferable to turn-off the automated captions and point students towards the more accurate transcripts. This can be enabled at a local level and more information is available from digitaleducation@lincoln.ac.uk.
