Welcome to your daily update for Learning At Work Week. Thursday’s theme is personal development and offers a range of opportunities for staff to engage with.

We have a British Sign Language course taking place during the morning which also looks to raise awareness of the Deaf Community.

If you can’t make any of the sessions today, some useful information below may still support your development:

Academic Promotions

Although the Academic Promotions window for applications has recently closed, it’s an ongoing process for staff throughout the year to consider the criteria and produce development plans for the year in readiness to apply in 2023. The webpages below have really useful information available about the criteria, recorded CPD sessions, case studies as well information relating to the process for shortlisting and interviews. We advise any staff interested in applying for promotion next year to access this information in plenty of time and work towards the criteria and development over a longer period of time to increase the chances of being successful when you do apply.

Online Module of the Day

Managing your priorities can be really difficult when you work in a fast paced role or have many parts to your everyday work. Do you feel overwhelmed by your work on some days and don’t know where to start? Prioritisation is a real skill and can be developed over time and with using different techniques that work for you. This online module offers some tangible techniques on how to manage these every day and takes about 20 minutes.

Resource of the Day

When thinking about your personal and professional development, it’s important to consider your goals over the next 6-12 months (short term), 3 years (mid term) and 5 years (long term) which will help you to set SMART objectives on how you can achieve your goals. These may relate very clearly to your professional development and career progression but this may also include goals you have in your personal life too. The goal setting resource is available via the link below and can be used to help focus your mind on what goals you really have. It might be really clear for you now and take a few minutes to note down, or alternatively, you might need to think for longer and revisit the handout to note them down when you know what these are.
