Postgraduate Research Experience Survey 2025

posted by Olivia Warbey | 10/04/2025

The Postgraduate Research Experience Survey (PRES) will be running at the university until Friday 16 May. This is a national online survey, co-ordinated by AdvanceHE.

This survey is a valuable opportunity for our postgraduate research students to feedback on their experience in a range of topics including supervision, research culture, progress and assessment, responsibilities, research skills and professional development.

This feedback to vital so that we can address any issues and keep doing what is valued most and is an opportunity for our students to say what has gone well and what could have been improved. It is also crucial for our strategic direction and REF 2029 ambitions, with improvement in research culture and growth of our PGR body key goals for the coming years.

On Monday 17 March, our enrolled postgraduate research students will have received an email invitation containing a direct link to the survey which should only take around 15 minutes to complete. This email will be sent from the Jisc Online surveys system.

Please encourage your research students to support this initiative and give their honest and constructive feedback. Colleagues from the Doctoral School will also be communicating directly to students and supervisors promoting the survey and encouraging its participation.

The results from this survey will be made available via the university dashboards early in the summer.

A copy of the question set can be found here (PDF document).

Thank you,
Professor Stuart Humphries
Dean of Research Environment & Director of the Doctoral School
