Research Leadership Programme

posted by Olivia Warbey | 10/04/2025

Following the success of our first programme, we are delighted to run another small-cohort research leadership programme for academic researchers from across the University. Run by external facilitators, The Collective, it is aimed at early to mid-career academics (lecturer and above) with research as a significant part of their role.

The programme will aim to increase your confidence as a leader, with particular focus on leadership within a research context. It will help you to:
– Engage with the transition from focusing on your career as an individual researcher to the wider perspective of supporting and providing leadership to others
– Build a network of colleagues across the university and consider your roles at a broader, more strategic level.

The training is aimed at early-mid career researchers who have not previously undertaken leadership development, and are in the process of building or consolidating their research group. The sessions will be interactive and pragmatic, encouraging you to reflect on what leadership looks like within your role now and in the future.

The programmes will run online via Zoom on the following dates.

Leadership modules:
Wednesday 7 May
Wednesday 14 May,
Wednesday 21 May,
Wednesday 11 June.
**All sessions will run from 1pm to 4pm. You must be able to attend all of these sessions.**

There will also be the chance to join action learning sets after the programme sessions. These small-group sessions are an opportunity to share real-life challenges and receive support and challenge from your peers to help you decide how to move forward. They are also a great way to develop your coaching skills.

Action Learning taster sessions:
Wednesday 18 June,
Wednesday 25 June,
Wednesday 2 July.
**All sessions will run from 1pm to 3pm. You only need to attend ONE of these sessions.**

In order to apply you must provide:

(1) a 500 word statement on why you want to take part, and on your suitability for the programme,
(2) a curriculum vitae focussed on research outputs, any income and notable achievements,
(3) a statement from your Head of School agreeing that you can attend if chosen and outlining why you should be supported from their perspective.

Applications should be emailed to LIAS@lincoln.ac.uk by Wednesday 30 April and decisions will be made by the Friday 2 May.

Please note that HoS, PVCs and/or CDoRs may be consulted as part of the decision process.

Kind regards,
Lincoln Institute of Advanced Studies
