Cygnet Wharf works nearing completion

Cygnet Wharf

The University’s new accommodation development, Cygnet Wharf, is due for completion this month, with new and returning students moving in from Saturday 16th September.

Cygnet Wharf has 442 en-suite rooms across three buildings and is designed to provide students with welcoming, safe and well-managed accommodation on our Brayford Pool campus in the heart of Lincoln. Cygnet Wharf is purpose built to meet the needs of students to have private bedrooms and shower rooms to relax, sleep and study, whilst also having shared spaces with modern kitchens, free and fast wifi internet access, on-site laundry facilities, secure cycle storage, and inclusive possessions insurance and utility bills.

Now that work is nearing completion, the site setup is gradually being broken down. The safety barriers on the Brayford Way flyover have been removed and subcontractor cabins to the west of the site are being taken away. The remainder of the contractor’s cabins will be removed in mid-October. The site compound will be altered but an area will need to be kept until the landscaping works are complete.

Landscaping work around Cygnet Wharf, along the Brayford Marina waterfront and around Bridge House, is scheduled to be completed in September and October 2017. This part of the project includes laying block paving, planting trees and shrubbery, and providing seating for students and staff. The works to complete this external element of the project, which are designed to provide a pleasant outside space, will take place during the day on weekdays only. There will still be some hoardings up around the new development throughout September and October to allow us to complete this work safely.

The road network around the site will return to how it was prior to the project ready for Monday 18th September. This includes reverting Campus Way to two-way traffic through the Student Village, under the flyover and around to the parking area behind MHT. The tunnel under the flyover will therefore revert back to pedestrian and cycle traffic only, creating a safe route through campus. Pedestrians are encouraged to use the footpath through Cygnet Wharf to avoid walking along the road. Estates and Campus Services will be monitoring the reopened road to maintain a safe environment for all campus users.

The Estates department apologies for the inconvenience this work may cause. Any queries should be directed to the Estates Helpdesk on 01522 886777.
