UoL Staff 7 – 4 EMAS

The University of Lincoln staff team roared to victory on Tuesday with a decisive 7-4 victory against East Midlands Ambulance Service.

UoL opened the scoring with a venomous edge-of-box volley by Adam Watter, reminiscent of 2002 Zidane.

Despite UoL dominating on territory and shots, EMAS gained the lead, with two goals in quick succession. However, UoL pulled back level with a goal from Wayne Christian after a penetrating run down the right, cutting into the area before placing it past the keeper and leaving it 2-2 at half time.

A strong start to the second half by UoL saw EMAS pinned back in their half, with their counter-attacks efficiently extinguished by a defensive line of Andy Wilcox, Kurtis Williamson, Sarah Sauve, Guy Mankowski, and Brian Ventura.

The deadlock was finally broken by Sam Biggs who proceeded to treat the crowds to a sensational 20-minute hattrick, outpacing and outmuscling defenders intent on stopping him. The first, assisted by Brad Nowland who escaped a pair of defenders down the left and played it across the penalty area into Sam’s path. The second, assisted by Kurtis Williamson, who delivered a precision 50 yard pass that left the defensive line stranded and Sam with a single defender to beat.

Joe Aisthorpe also contributed to second half scoring with a powerful edge-of-box volley that even a dozen goalkeepers would have been unable to stop.

Victory was all but confirmed with a seventh goal coming from Tim Marks. An arced run down the left into the penalty area saw Tim 1-on-1 with the EMAS goalkeeper, but at a shallow angle. Showing his wealth of experience, Tim gave the goalkeeper the eyes for the far post, but then calmly slotted the ball in at the near post.

In the last 10-minutes, as UoL took their foot of the pedal, EMAS scored two goals on counter-attacks, but it was too little, too late.

Casual staff football runs on Tuesdays 5.30pm – 6.30pm and is suitable for all abilities. If you would like to get involved, please contact AnCooke@lincoln.ac.uk.
