TNE joint Computer Science with XUPT approved by China’s Ministry of Education

The University of Lincoln is pleased to announce that a joint undergraduate programme in Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence, with Xi’an University of Posts and Telecommunications (XUPT), has been formally approved by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. It is one of a number of partnerships announced by the Ministry of Education at the end of 2025. The British Council published a list of all new UK partnerships: Newly approved UK-China TNE partnerships in Dec 2025 | British Council
This significant milestone marks the first step in growing the University’s strategic transnational education (TNE) partnerships. The joint programme with XUPT combines the University of Lincoln’s expertise in computer science and artificial intelligence with XUPT’s established strengths in information and communications technologies. It is designed to meet both UK academic standards and Chinese regulatory requirements, while responding to global demand for graduates with advanced digital and AI skills.
The programme will be delivered collaboratively by academic staff from both institutions in Xi’an, providing students with a strong technical foundation aligned with the approved curriculum. It also strengthens the University’s internationalisation agenda by expanding TNE provision and enhancing opportunities for academic collaboration.
The University of Lincoln and XUPT are aiming to welcome their first cohort of approximately 120 students in September 2026, and by 2029 the programme is expected to reach a total student population of around 1,200. It represents an important step in expanding the University’s transnational education footprint.
Professor Neal Juster, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lincoln, said:
“This approval reflects the strong collaboration between our two institutions and our shared commitment to delivering high-quality education in computer science and artificial intelligence in China. We look forward to preparing students for careers in technology with a global perspective.”
Peng Isitt, APVC / Director of Overseas Partnerships (China) at the University of Lincoln, added:
“We are delighted that this joint programme has received official approval. By combining our expertise in computer science and artificial intelligence with XUPT’s established strengths in information and communications technology, the programme creates excellent opportunities for students and staff.”
