PhD Student Awarded British Spanish Society Scholarship

Mathematics and Physics PhD student Javier Díaz has been awarded a British Spanish Society Scholarship .The prestigious scholarship is aimed at postgraduate students and links Spanish and British research. The award, sponsored by Plastic Energy, will allow Javier to extend his PhD with a stay in Barcelona where he will collaborate with Prof. Ignacio Pagonabarraga, working on polymer nanocomposites.
Javier, who completed his BSc in Physics at the Universidad de Sevilla in Spain, impressed judges with his project proposal which will see him study the effect that nanoparticles have on the block copolymer nanocomposite overall morphology, as well as the assembly of colloids. Complex systems such as anisotropic nanoparticles will also be examined.
The awards ceremony took place at the Spanish Embassy in London on the 24th of May and was attended by Spanish Embassador as well as the British Embassador in Spain. Speeches were delivered by the 8 awardees, who covered a wide variety of topics from history of music to medicine. The ceremony also marked the 10th anniversary of the scholarships which the Spanish British Society celebrated by inviting previous awardees. The event offered the opportunity for recent winners of the awards to meet established researchers.
