Magna Carta Lecture at Lincoln Cathedral

On Wednesday 1 June 2016, Alexander Downer, the Australian High Commissioner, will deliver the annual Magna Carta Lecture in Lincoln Cathedral.

The annual Magna Carta Lecture returns to the Nave of Lincoln Cathedral on Wednesday 1 June with guest speaker, Australian High Commissioner, The Hon Alexander Downer AC. A former Australian Liberal Party politician, he was Foreign Minister of Australia from March 1996 to December 2007, the longest-serving in Australian history. He was also the Leader of the Opposition for eight months from 1994 to 1995. Until early February 2014, Mr Downer was the United Nations Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Cyprus. Mr Downer was a Director of Bespoke Approach Consultancy and a visiting professor at the University of Adelaide, School of History and Politics. He held a professorship at Carnegie Mellon University and sits on a number of boards. He was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2001 and appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia in 2013.
