‘REEL WOMEN: Film heritage LIVE’ is a free screening event co-curated by students from the College of Arts and the Media Archive for Central England (MACE).

A ‘live cinema’ screening, REEL WOMEN will showcase the masterpiece of silent cinema SUNRISE (1927) with LIVE musical accompaniment by celebrated musician and composer Stephen Horne. Set in the roaring 1920s, SUNRISE is a thrilling tale of love and deception in which two lovers dream of committing the perfect murder. Actress Janet Gaynor was one of the biggest stars of her generation and her performance in Sunrise secured her the first ever Academy Award for Best Actress.

The film will be preceded by a short programme of archive footage revealing aspects of women’s lives across the Midlands which has been co-curated with students from the School of History and Heritage who are exploring public engagement through teaching and research.

Dr Clare Watson, Director of MACE, said: “We are thrilled to be teaming up with students from Lincoln to explore the creative and public engagement outcomes that can be realised from collaboration between learning, research and screen heritage professionals.”

The event forms part of the University’s Festival of Creativity and is gratefully supported by the British Film Institute’s Film Audience Network as part of Changing Times: Women’s Histories.
