Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Co-Ordinator Subash Chellaiah is planning a 90-mile barefoot walk to raise awareness of the need for peace and religious harmony in India.

Subash will walk through Southern India, starting at Kanyakumari, close to where he was born, and walk through to Virudhunagar. He hopes to meet community, political and faith leaders on his journey to discuss with them the need for peace and religious harmony.

Following his walk, Subash will travel by motorbike to Keeranur. He is raising money for two non-profit organisations, which he helped to create: The Centre for Reconciliation and Little Elephant School.

The Centre for Reconciliation (TCfR), based in Lincolnshire, aims to bring people together from all religious, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Through a variety of community work, training, workshops and education, TCfR aims to replace religious and cultural fears and hatreds with understanding and respect.

The Little Elephant School is located in the Trichy district of Tamil Nadu in South India and was created by Subash and his wife Ruth in 2012, starting with only five children. Today the school educates 168 pupils.

Earlier this year, Subash was presented with the Rotary International Peace Award, recognising his two decades of humanitarian community work.
