Intercultural Communications

posted by Alistair Berry | 12/02/2020

The aim of this workshop is to improve:

• Skills to communicate better with people from other cultures (colleagues and students) based on an understanding of how culture affects communication between people.
• Communication skills with non-native speakers of English based on an understanding of why problems occur, and practical ways to avoid them.

By the end of the session you will have:

• An understanding of the differences between cultures, the reasons for this and the impact of this in the workplace
• Skills to enhance your cross-cultural communication to ensure the best possible outcomes in multicultural and multilingual environments
• An understanding of why problems can arise when people communicate in English and skills to easily adapt your language to ensure you are communicating as effectively as possible with non-native speakers

This course is available to anyone working at the University who has to communicate with, or work alongside, people from other backgrounds and/or who speak other languages or anyone interested in learning how to communicate more effectively in English. The next sessions will take place on 16th March from 9:30-12:30 and 18th March from 13:30-16:30.
