We’d like to invite you to the next Historical Association lecture at the University of Lincoln with speaker, Dr Marcus Collins, Loughborough University.

This talk examines how the BBC responded to the end of empire in the period immediately after the 1956 Suez Crisis. It shows that the BBC joined its forces with those of the British state, from the Houses of Parliament to District Commissioners in colonial Africa, to present decolonisation as a continuation of an imperial ‘civilising mission’ to audiences at home and abroad.

The event will begin at 6.15pm on 10 October 2022, at the University of Lincoln’s Brayford Pool campus. Details of the specific location of the talk will be circulated a couple of days before it takes place.

All welcome – the talk is free for members of the HA, students and teachers. There will be a small fee for others who wish to attend. Attendees will be able to join the branch at the talk.

Please register your interest in the talk here.
