Engaging With Policy Makers (Institute for Government Workshop)
Wednesday 23 November 2022 9.30 -4pm
Room LMS0010
Lunch provided
Dear all,
We are delighted to be able to offer a face to face workshop on Wednesday 23 November run by the highly respected Institute for Government (”IfG”) to demystify government and explain how to engage successfully with policy makers at both national and local level.
This workshop was oversubscribed and extremely well received by participants last year.
The Lincoln Policy Hub and the Parliamentary Research Centre (ParliLinc) have collaborated with the IfG to design a bespoke programme for a limited number of researchers and professional services staff. The workshop will be kept small to enable maximum interaction and participation. We encourage you to sign up asap. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. These sessions are funded by the Research England QR Policy Support Fund awarded to the University, therefore there will be no cost to the participant or School. The sessions are open to research staff at all stages in their career. PhD students are also welcome to attend. We also encourage professional services staff to attend as the workshop will provide support for staff to assist researchers in navigating the policy field.
Please register to attend by emailing Charlotte Allsopp callsopp@lincoln.ac.uk
The sessions will be engaging, informative and practical, with lots of opportunities to apply lessons to participants’ own areas of research and will be appropriate for researchers at any career level and specialising in any discipline. The session will be particularly useful in developing pathways to impact and understanding potential knowledge exchange opportunities in the policy landscape.
Participants will:
– Gain an improved understanding of the governmental landscape
– Learn how academic research is used in policy making
– Explore policy making from the perspective of the Civil Service
– Discuss how to engage with parliament
– Consider how to engage with regional and local partners
– Practise communicating effectively with policy makers
The workshops will be delivered by Katie Thorpe, IfG Head of Learning and Development, and Dr Alice Lilly from the IfG.
