Research Support Schemes
The University is launching a new suite of measures to support research activity across all Colleges, Schools and Institutes. In line with our strategic commitment to intensify research and focus on areas of strength and opportunity, this new suite of schemes has been conceived to support research endeavours across all disciplines and at different points of the ‘research journey’.
The new interventions are:
Research Pump Priming Scheme – Internal competitive scheme for small grants up to the value of £5k to support growth in external research income and development of 4* outputs.
Match Funding for Major Research Bids – This scheme demonstrates institutional commitment to complement a competitive external research funding bid.
Match funding for PGRs – Internal competition for match funding for studentships which secure partial funding from external organisations.
Fixed-term bridging support for researchers in between research projects – The purpose of this scheme is to improve the career opportunities of researchers (by for example avoiding breaks in employment) and to increase the stability of research teams.
Research Impact Support Fund – Internal competitive scheme for small grants up to £5K to support the development of impact from research conducted at Lincoln. Focus is on development of potential Impact Case Studies for future REF exercises.
Research Sabbatical Scheme – Internal competitive scheme to support a number of one-semester research sabbaticals, to be taken during 2023-24.
Full details for each of the schemes are available on the ResearchFirst pages: https://researchfirst.blogs.lincoln.ac.uk/qr-funded-research-support-schemes/.
Lincoln Policy Hub Funding
In addition, funding to support policy engagement activities is also available from the Lincoln Policy Hub. More details are available below.
Rapid Response – Funding up to £1,000 to support policy engagement activities (such as travel, accommodation, event attendance and organisation, and other activities) which are in response to urgent and swift turnaround policy related opportunities. Decisions made on a weekly basis every Friday until 30th June.
Small Grants – Funding up to £5000 to support larger scale or policy engagement projects with a longer timescale which may establish new areas of engagement or take existing engagement to the next level. Decisions made and communicated week commencing 6th March.
Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) scheme:
A new Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) scheme is also being launched. College Directors of Research (in consultation with their leadership teams) will be invited to bid for GTA cohorts based on the contribution GTAs could make to their research plans and teaching needs. The need to build critical mass in particular areas will be part of such a case and it is expected that Colleges will propose GTAs should be recruited in clusters of at least three in areas that have been identified as being of strategic focus. The bidding part of the process will start shortly.
