Lincoln International Business School (LIBS) members of staff played a key role during the International Women’s Day celebration of the University of the Philippines Open University (UPOU) on 22 of March.

Prof Ted Fuller, UNESCO Chair of Responsible Foresight and Sustainable Development, delivered an inspirational message to participants of the roundtable discussion of women pioneers in the tech start-up ecosystem in the Philippines.

Magda Read chaired the discussion with private start-ups and incubators; Dr Hilary Duckett chaired the discussion with government, NGOs and venture capitalists; whilst Dr Suhaer Yunus chaired the discussion with academic start-ups and technology business industries.

The hybrid event, which was attended by participants throughout the Philippines as well as other ASIAN countries, showcased the partnership between LIBS and UPOU in the two projects that Magda, Hilary and Suhaer are involved with, under the auspice of the UNESCO Chair in Responsible Foresight and Sustainable Development. These two projects involve: 1) Researching on the impact of women in the survival and growth of technology start-ups in the Philippines; and 2) A case study on challenges and successes of women leadership positions in the Philippine technology start-up ecosystem. It is anticipated that further initiatives will emerge as a result of these two initial projects, that will reinforce the collaboration between the two institutions.

Prof Simon Lilley, Interim Head of School and former Director of Research for LIBS said he was delighted to see such vibrant evidence of the developing collaboration between LIBS and UPOU and that he looks forward to seeing how we can deepen and strengthen that relationship further.
