Introducing the Lincolnshire Branch of the Classical Association
The Classical Studies programme at the University of Lincoln is pleased to announce the creation of a new Lincolnshire branch of the Classical Association, as a platform for events aimed at students, teachers, scholars, and members of the public who share an interest in the history and legacy of the ancient world.
Our launch will take place on Thursday 11 May, when we host Professor Tom Harrison, Keeper of the Department of Greece and Rome at the British Museum, for a lecture on ‘Reimagining the Classical Past (at the British Museum)’:
This talk reflects (from the point of view of someone new to working in a museum) on the way in which the Classical past is reflected (and has been reflected) in the displays of the British Museum; how the Museum has kept up with our understanding of the ancient world; and how we might reconsider the displays in the twenty-first century, at a time when the very idea of the ‘Universal Museum’ is under challenge.
The launch will be held in the Cargill Lecture Theatre, Minerva Building, Brayford Campus, University of Lincoln. Refreshments will be served from 5.30pm, and Prof Harrison’s lecture will start at 6pm.
Admission is free. If you wish to attend, please register here: https://forms.office.com/e/BnXvCXjsrtusing.
