Message from the Vice Chancellor – Professor Liz Mossop
Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that the University’s Provost and Senior Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Liz Mossop, has been appointed the next Vice Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University. This is a fantastic opportunity for Liz, and her appointment as SHU’s next VC reflects her outstanding leadership abilities and the high regard in which she, and Lincoln, are held across the sector. While I will be extremely sad to see her go, I am also proud she will be taking on the leadership at an institution which shares many of the values we cherish here at Lincoln.
Liz joined the University of Lincoln as Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Development and Engagement in 2018 from The University of Nottingham. Throughout her five years at Lincoln, she has brought great dynamism, expertise and innovation to enhancing our teaching, learning and the student experience.
She was central in developing the University’s 2022-27 strategic plan and the Teaching, Learning and Student Experience supporting strategy, which sets out how we can further advance Lincoln’s exceptional record in meeting the needs and aspirations of our students. She was also a key figure in helping the University navigate through the enormous challenges presented by the Covid-19 pandemic. In January this year, Liz was appointed to the new position of Provost, providing additional strategic leadership for the academic direction of the University.
I am sure colleagues will join me in congratulating Liz and wishing her every success. We will have the opportunity to say farewell later in the year and details will be shared once available.
I asked Liz to write a few words on her time at Lincoln. Here are her reflections: “I have had the privilege of working with amazing colleagues and students at Lincoln for the past five years, and whilst I am very excited for some new challenges at Hallam I am very sad to be leaving our wonderful community. Together we have achieved so much – both for our students and the broader academic community – and I am immensely proud to have been a part of this incredible university. The challenges we tackled during the pandemic in particular taught me so much about what a good team is and does, and I want to say a huge thank you to everyone for your support and hard work during this period specifically. I know Lincoln will go from strength to strength and I will always be proud to say I have been a small part of its success, and the huge contribution we make to the people of Lincolnshire and beyond.”
Liz will leave us at the end of the calendar year, starting her new post in January 2024.
The process of finding Liz’s successor will begin imminently and I will, of course, keep colleagues updated.
Regards,
Neal
