Self Service Student Laptop Loans – available now in Minerva and David Chiddick Buildings

Following a collaboration between Libraries and Learning Skills, The International College and Student Services, we are pleased to announce that self-service laptop loans are now available to students in the David Chiddick Global Lounge and Minerva Learning Lounge. This complements the existing service already running in the University Library.

Recent research indicated that some students encounter digital poverty which can significantly impact student wellbeing and academic performance, alongside limiting university approaches to support student teaching and learning support.

In response to these findings, the University has funded the purchase of 2 additional LapSafe self-service cabinets and 72 new HP laptops thus extending the existing provision outside the University Library. The aim of the project was to provide easy to access, reliable devices to aid with student learning and combat digital poverty.

Any student with a valid UOL student ID card can borrow a laptop. Only one laptop can be borrowed at a time.

Laptops can be borrowed for up to 3 hours at a time. If a laptop is needed for longer, students can just return the laptop and borrow another. There is no restriction on how many times a student can borrow a laptop.

The laptops are high spec Windows 10 devices complete with the university standard desktop installed. Students just need to log in using their student ID and password and the laptop will connect to the university Wi-Fi automatically.

We will monitor how the Lapsafe service is used in each area which will give us a better understanding of how best to utilise the laptops in the future.

More information on the service can be found on the library web pages https://guides.library.lincoln.ac.uk/about/computers-printing

If you have any questions or would like more information about the service, please contact the library@lincoln.ac.uk or visit the library and speak to a member of staff.
