Neurodiversity Awareness Training

This course is designed for all colleagues, particularly those working with neuro-divergent colleagues or students and will look at the following:

Dyslexia:
• What is dyslexia and how does it affect processing of information?
• Who gets dyslexia?
• Strategies to assist people with dyslexia in reading, writing, and tracking text
• A range of structured, multisensory strategies to improve literacy skills

ADHD:
• Understanding the three areas of diversity in ADHD.
• An overview of how the impairments affecting learners with ADHD/ADD may cause barriers to learning
• Understanding the differences in interventions needed for people with ADHD
• Strategies to help people with ADHD in both learning and daily life

Autism:
• An investigation of the four areas of diversity in autism
• Strategies for clear communication
• Understanding the importance of special interests to individuals with autism

Dyspraxia:
• What does it mean to have dyspraxia? An introduction to the needs of the individual and the associated impairments. This will include guidance on developing academic and physical skills.
• Creating equal opportunity for people with dyspraxia
• Simple and effective guidance for adapting support and assessment to meet the needs of people with dyspraxia

PDA Pathological Demand Avoidance
• What is PDA and how is it related to autism
• Understanding anxiety based need to be in control
Strategies and interventions to support people with PDA, including non – challenging communication
