The Future Leaders Fellowships (FLF) inaugural awards spotlighted the next wave of world-class leaders in academia and business. Professor Anna Tarrant and her team behind the ‘Following Young Fathers Further’ (FYFF) research project were among those honoured for garnering significant wide-reaching, positive impact through excellent leadership, research, innovation and engagement.

The FLF awards recognised exceptional achievements across four categories: advancing culture, leadership, public engagement, research and innovation. FYFF was one of just three highly commended entries in the category of research and innovation.

This recognition from a major UK funding body demonstrates how important the study has been in creating blueprints for new groups dedicated to supporting young dads, such as the Grimsby Dads Collective and interventions co-created with and for young fathers, like DigiDAD.

Anna Tarrant said: “It was honour that the team and I gained recognition in these prestigious awards and in the research and innovation category for our work with young fathers.

“The Future Leaders cohort are at the forefront of innovative science in the UK and to be acknowledged among such a talented and impressive group, especially as social scientists, is a true acknowledgement of how Following Young Fathers Further is delivering on its vision for a father-inclusive society that benefits everyone.”

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) FLF Director, Dr Stephen Meader said: “It was fantastic to see so many real-world impacts from the work that our Fellows are doing, and I know the judging panel found it very hard to pick winners from so many outstanding entries.

These awards also provide us with a way to reward those FLFs making strides in important areas such as positive leadership and the advancement of cultural change, which don’t always receive the attention and accolades they deserve.”
