Use of theories in qualitative research: a multi-disciplinary perspective

On Tuesday 16 April from 12 – 1pm, Dr Gupteswar Patel will speak on the topic of the “Use of theories in qualitative research: a multi-disciplinary perspective”.

Qualitative research relies on theories to provide frameworks for understanding and interpreting complex phenomena, guiding researchers in conceptualising their studies and interpreting their findings. Theories in qualitative research help in analysing data, offering perspectives into the underlying meanings, patterns, and relationships within the topic under study – ultimately helping to generate new knowledge and understanding in the field.

Gupteswar is a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Community and Health Research Unit, University of Lincoln. He was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) by the University of Newcastle, Australia, in April 2022. He also obtained a Master of Public Health, and a Bachelor of Pharmacy. Before joining the CaHRU, he held research and teaching positions at the University of Newcastle, Australia, and the Public Health Foundation of India, Delhi. Gupteswar’s primary area of research interest is health systems and policy research, reflecting a comprehensive focus on understanding and improving healthcare structures and the policies that govern them.
