The University’s Lincoln International Business School hosted the successful second edition of the Lincoln Entrepreneurship and Innovation Colloquium on 9 – 10 May 2024 in the David Chiddick Building. The event brought together a group of 35 academics from around the world (including Vietnam, South Africa, Czech Republic, Portugal, Italy, Malta, Germany and many others), between PhD students, early career researchers and mentors.

The objective of the event was to discuss the diverse facets of doctoral and post-doctoral careers and the different possibilities for carrying out empirical research in entrepreneurship and innovation. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in a session moderated by Andrea Caputo where local professors-entrepreneurs Anne Chick (School of Design) and Bashir Al-Diri (School of Computer Science) discussed their journeys and challenges for entrepreneurship and innovation in their roles as academic and entrepreneurs.

The event also featured keynote speakers, panel discussions, and mentoring workshops on topics such as doing research, the academic career, and the publication journey.

One of the highlights of the event was the keynote speeches by Professor Kristel Miller (Ulster University), who talked about Research for what purpose? Communicating theoretical, practical and policy implications and by Professor Simon Lilley (Unibersity of Lincoln) on Where the action is: Recognising and Representing Moment of (Ex)change in Qualitative Inquiry.

Attendees also had the opportunity to network and share their ideas and experiences with each other by attending mentoring sessions aimed at improving their research projects with the help of senior researchers and editors who gathered in Lincoln for the occasion.

“We are thrilled with the success of LEIC.” said Professor Andrea Caputo, who chaired the event, adding: “The event provided a valuable platform for early career researchers in the entrepreneurship and innovation field to come together and discuss the latest developments and trends in this research. We would like to thank all of our attendees, speakers, mentors, and sponsors for making this event possible.”

Dr Natalie Wilmot, Dean of Lincoln International Business School, said: “we are delighted to have played host to such a successful second edition of the LEIC, and it was our privilege to provide this exciting forum for early career researchers to come together, with our thanks to all those who gave their time to make this possible”.

This year, the event was fully financially supported by the Society for the Advancement of Management Studies (SAMS), which allowed the event to be free of charge and to provide accommodation to 15 academics, including PhD students and mentors.

The LEIC also had in-kind sponsorship by Emerald Publishing and patronage by the British Academy of Management and the European Academy of Management SIGs’ of Entrepreneurship.

The organising committee of LEIC, chaired by Professor Andrea Caputo, and including Dr Mohammad Fakhar Manesh, Dr Mahdieh Zeinali and Mrs Mariya Kargina, all from LIBS, is already planning its next edition for the next year.
