Mandatory Training Updates

 posted by | 28/11/2024

Colleagues should be aware of important changes to the mandatory training that are required as part of working at the University.

A recent review identified opportunities to enhance the mandated training while giving managers more flexibility in deciding specific course requirements for their teams. These changes, approved by the SLT and the Board of Governors, are outlined below.

Tier 1 – Mandatory Courses

All colleagues (including Associate Lecturers/Demonstrators) must complete the following:

Introduction to Health & Safety Online module – every 3 years

Fire Safety    Online module – every 3 years

Safeguarding Children & Adults at Risk Face-to-face course (core colleagues only), then online module every 2 years

Data Protection Online module – annually

Information Security Online module – annually

Note: If you have already completed these courses, your completion dates will carry forward, provided they are within the specified timescales.

Tier 2 – Recommended Courses

Heads of Area (HoA), Heads of School (HoS), Heads of Department (HoD), or team managers will decide if training in the following areas is required for their teams, using the available guidance. Your HoA will communicate any specific requirements directly.

Bribery Act 2010 Online module

Consumer Rights Act Online module

Digital Accessibility Online module

Stress Awareness Online module – every 3 years

Equality in the Workplace Online module

Tier 3 – Role Specific Courses (Reminder)

Colleagues undertaking any of the following duties or responsibilities must complete the relevant training:

Recruitment & Selection For panel members – Online module

Appraiser Training For anyone conducting an appraisal (AAPR/PDR) – Face-to-face workshop

PREVENT For anyone involved in delivering an apprenticeship – online workshop

Additional Information

Most courses are delivered online to facilitate ease of access and convenience.

The mandatory training policy has been updated to reflect these changes. Colleagues must familiarise themselves with this policy and the associated sanctions for non-compliance.

A review of EDI-related courses (including Active Bystander and Inclusive Leadership) is underway, with updates to follow.

Additional required training specific to different areas, professional bodies, or expertise will complement the above provisions and are managed locally.

It is imperative that all colleagues are up to date with their mandatory training to minimise risks to the University. Reports detailing any outstanding training have been sent to your HoA, however, you can also check your own record for online modules here.
