Law Prof’s Expertise Shines in African Union CEVAWG Convention Analysis
Prof Kim Barker, Lincoln Law School, has made a number of interventions in the analysis and recommendations for the effective implementation of the draft African Union’s AU Convention on Ending Violence against Women and Girls (AU CEVAWG Convention). The Convention is intended to be the first instrument addressing all forms of violence against women across the African Union.
In collaboration with a panel of experts, Kim has played a pivotal role in formulating recommendations aimed at ending violence against women and girls across the African Union. Her legal expertise was instrumental in identifying concrete areas for improvement within the Convention, especially around cyber violence, and monitoring mechanisms.
The recommendations for the implementation of the AU CEVAWG,which includes both French and English versions, reflects the collective efforts of the expert panel invited to contribute to the draft by the UN Women’s office in Tunisia and Libya. Prof Barker worked alongside a panel of local experts to formulate a constructive set of recommendations related to the draft in partnership with CVDT.
