Refreshing our strategy
Message for all colleagues from the Vice Chancellor
Dear colleagues
Those of you who have attended recent town hall meetings and followed other announcements will know that we have undertaken a significant review of our strategic plan, as we navigate the ongoing uncertainties facing UK higher education.
I am grateful to everyone who contributed to the refresh of our strategy, which began last summer through a series of staff engagement surgeries, and has now concluded with consolidation of the activities which will define the remainder of our five-year strategy period.
The process of reviewing our original strategic plan, produced almost three years ago, has galvanised many of its foundations while also enabling us to adapt and refine it as we respond to a changing world.
The completion of the strategy refresh restates the positive vision of the type of university we want to be and offers a practical plan for how we achieve it.
A video with senior leaders from the University describing how the refreshed strategy relates to their portfolio areas is now available to view on the Strategy Hub intranet site. You will also find a one-page summary, with links to drill down into details of the more than 40 strategic initiatives that will help us progress towards our goals and focus areas. The pace and scale of change will be significant as we move forward through a new phase of implementation.
There will of course be further opportunities to discuss the renewed strategy and its component initiatives in the weeks and months ahead. For now, I hope you will reflect on the progress we have made as an institution, at times in adversity, and the work still to be done, using the resources on the Strategy Hub site.
Thank you again to all those colleagues who have contributed to this exercise, testing our assumptions, scrutinising our values, and directing our focus as we build forward for a bright future for the University and the people and communities we serve.
Professor Neal Juster
Vice Chancellor
