Carers Week 2025

posted by Olivia Warbey | 09/06/2025

Carers Week is a national campaign held every June to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

Whether you’re looking after a child, a relative, or someone who lives with you, the University wants to ensure you feel supported both personally and professionally.

Who is considered a carer?

– A carer or an employee with caring responsibilities may be:

– A parent or guardian of a child up to the age of 18 years

– Someone caring for an adult who is a near relative or falls outside this category but lives at the same address

Support Available at the University:

Support for University colleagues includes up to five days of paid leave and an additional 15 days unpaid leave within a 12-month rolling period. This applies to any employees who are caring for a spouse, civil partner, child, parent or other dependant who needs care because of a disability, old age or any illness or injury likely to require at least three months of care – for more information you can visit the Leave of Absence Policy on the portal or contact your PPC People Advisor.

A dedicated Staff Support Network for Carers. For more information or to join the group click here.
