Inaugural Lecture: Prof Mo Ray | 1st Nov

The School of Health and Social Care will be hosting the next Professorial Inaugural Lecture on Wednesday 1st November 2017. This series of lectures are an opportunity to hear about the research work of some of our newest Professors in the College of Social Science at the University of Lincoln.

Professor Mo Ray will speak on:

Boon or Burden? The implications for us all of an ageing society.

Despite commentaries which highlight the benefits of an ageing society, the pervasive narrative is that of old age as a burden. The burden narrative has arguably become ever more present in the current uncertainties surrounding social care funding and pressures in health care.
Drawing on a life course perspective, care ethics and critical gerontology, along with her own experience as a practitioner and researcher, Professor Ray will argue for a fundamental shift in our attitudes and perceptions about old age.

The lecture will integrate a reflection on Professor Ray’s biography. From her perspective as a social gerontologist, she will consider what we have learned from gerontological research and practice as an interdisciplinary field of study giving examples from her own research and scholarship activities. Professor Ray will also reflect on key messages from her research and scholarship. The lecture will conclude with some thoughts on the continued challenges and opportunities associated with an ageing society.

The lecture will take place in the David Chiddick Building at the University of Lincoln. Arrival is from 5.30pm for a 6pm start. The presentation will conclude at 7pm with a drinks reception and an opportunity for networking and to continue any discussions arising from the lecture.
