An investigation examining the effects of goal type on physical activity, affect and enjoyment.

You will be required to participate in a simple exercise task on four separate occasions at the University Sports Centre, Lincoln. You will complete a 6 minute walk test three times within each session, each time experiencing a different goal condition (i.e. a specific goal, to walk a set distance in 6 minutes). During the walk test you will be asked to indicate your perceived exertion, pleasure/displeasure and arousal levels at intervals before, during and at the end of the test. You will also be asked to complete two questionnaires relating to the level of enjoyment you experienced and your future exercise intentions.

The only inclusion criteria is that you are aged between 18-40 years, and participate in either less than 30 minutes physical activity per week, or more than 150 minutes p/w.

This research could have implications for current best practice in goal setting, and physical activity promotion strategies. If you are interested in participating, please contact the principal investigator, Rebecca Hawkins at rhawkins@lincoln.ac.uk or call 01522837735
