College of Science Research Buzz Week

As part of our ‘Research Buzz Week’ the College of Science is organising a number of tours of our research facilities and laboratories in June 2022 to showcase the exciting research being carried out in the College, and to inspire colleagues across the University to collaborate with us in new research challenges and opportunities.

This is a unique opportunity for all staff at the University to learn more about the amazing research our academic colleagues and research students are working on within the College, to see and learn more about each of the School, Centre and Institute research activities and facilities, and please invite your chosen industrial and other sector partners to come along with you for the experience.

Each guided tour will include explanations of the facilities on show, demonstrations, posters and videos. Each tour also offers its own unique opportunities as set out below.

In order to coordinate the tours and activities we need to get accurate numbers of people attending each day, so for each person wanting to go on a tour, please click on the headings below, complete the relevant Eventbrite page and submit!

Monday 6th June 2022, 10 am to 2 pm – Schools of Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics

Venue:  Isaac Newton Building (INB), Lincoln Brayford Campus.  This is a landmark campus building at its beautiful city-centre Brayford Campus, and will include the opportunity to experience robots and augmented reality, and see the latest in machine learning and computer vision at Lincoln.

Tuesday 7th June 2022, 10 am to 2 pm – Schools of Life and Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, and Pharmacy 

Venue: Joseph Banks Laboratories, Lincoln Brayford Campus.   Visit our cutting-edge laboratories, including a chance to see the ‘automatic weather station’ and a flume for river simulations.

Friday 10th June 2022, 11 am to 3 pm (please free your diary from 9.30-4.30 to allow journey time) – National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM), Holbeach (transport from Lincoln Campus provided)

Venues: National Centre for Food Manufacturing, Holbeach and then on to the nearby Centre of Excellence and the Internet of Things Building – coach provided

Building 1 – 11 am, NCFM (National Centre for Food Manufacturing) – Tour of the factory including factory/pilot scale equipment demonstrations (then on the coach)

Building 2 – CoE (Centre of Excellence) Building – Tour of our research labs including our New Product Development (NPD) kitchen and sensory suite and an opportunity to experience/participate in sensory evaluation of food. During this tour we will also showcase some of our ongoing lab-based research.

Building 3 – IoT (Institute of Technology) Building – We will present a general introduction to various food industry related projects and showcase some of our posters plus lunch will be provided.
