Dr. Nadia Gulko, Associate Professor from Lincoln International Business School (LIBS) received the KPMG Best Paper Award 2023 for presenting a paper entitled ‘The role of gender in perceptions of teaching excellence by accounting and business students’ at the Gender Issues Worklife Balance (GIWB) category of the 2023 American Accounting Association (AAA) Annual Conference in Colorado, USA on the 7th August.

This paper is part of a larger research project on Teaching Excellence led by Nadia and sponsored by AICPA & CIMA in collaboration with colleagues from eleven countries across five continents. There is growing recognition of gender issues within education environments all around the world. Individuals from diverse backgrounds can be especially vulnerable to gender-based norms and biases. This issue resonates with ongoing gender-related challenges in the workplace.

Nadia commented: “I am truly honoured to receive the prestigious KPMG GIWB Best Paper Award 2023 at the AAA Annual Conference. This award recognises the importance of my research on accounting education and provides a deeper insight into the role of gender in assessing teaching excellence.

It was a privilege to co-present this paper with the eminent Prof Natalie Churyk, USA and meet in person my other renowned co-author Prof Elizabeth Gordon, USA. Many thanks to the KPMG US for sponsoring the award, to the American Accounting Association for making this conference such a fantastic event, and to the AICPA&CIMA for sponsoring my research project! Many congratulations to the outstanding educators, the project team members from around the world, with this team achievement. It was a great pleasure to represent LIBS and the University of Lincoln at such a prestigious global event as the AAA, which is the largest community of accountants in academia in the world”
