Book of the Month – November 2024
November is a month where we take time to remember the sacrifices made by forces personnel and their families.
In honour, we are proud to announce our book of the month Brothers in War by Michael Walsh. This compelling narrative delves into the lives of eight brothers and their family during World War I, offering a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by so many.
The novel is particularly significant for us here in Lincoln as the story centres around eight brothers from Lincoln, whose experiences and bravery during the war are brought to life through Michael Walsh’s meticulous research and gripping storytelling.
Beginning with the family’s earlier years, the story of their wartime experiences is then put together from the notes and letters they sent from the front. The reviews call this story a “moving testament to…bravery and sacrifice” yet “uplifting to read” – incredible when we know that only three of the brothers returned home from the war alive. The connection to our city makes the book a must-read for anyone interested in our local heritage and the broader context of the war.
As we honour those who have served and remember their sacrifices this Remembrance Sunday, Brothers in War serves as a powerful tribute. You can read this book in the Libby App: https://lncn.ac/GetLibby
