Dr Jane Harrold, Senior Lecturer in Strategic Studies, appeared on a special episode of BBC’s Songs of Praise as the programme marked Remembrance Sunday.

The programme was recorded at Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) in Dartmouth, Devon where Jane teaches at the Maritime Studies Centre – delivering educational courses and programmes to Royal Navy officers embarking on their professional careers as part of the University’s contribution to Project Selborne.

Jane spoke to Songs of Praise host, Sean Fletcher, about the chapel at BRNC and shared the poignant story of Midshipman Hebert ‘Bertie’ Lawson Riley, a former student at the school who lost his life during WW1 and is now memorialised at the BRNC chapel. Jane was also able to select a hymn to be performed on the show, choosing Abide With Me – which she described as both “inspiring and reassuring”.

The episode is available to watch back on the BBC iPlayer here.
