New Worker Protection Act and Our Commitment to a Safe Workplace

The Worker Protection Act (an amendment of the Equality Act) was recently enacted, which strengthens protections against sexual harassment. This legislation applies to all workers, inclusive of all gender identities, ensuring comprehensive protection for everyone.

What is the Worker Protection Act?

The Worker Protection Act imposes a positive obligation on employers, requiring them to proactively implement ‘reasonable steps’ to prevent sexual harassment. This change is designed to enhance the safety and wellbeing of workers.

At the University we are committed to maintaining a safe and respectful environment for all, fostering a strong culture of equality, diversity and inclusion. The University is actively working to meet the obligations of the Worker Protection Act, reinforcing our ongoing efforts to create an environment free from harassment, where everyone can thrive.

Reporting Concerns

If you experience or witness sexual harassment, we encourage you to report it immediately. Follow the procedure outlined in the Bullying and Harassment Policy, which you can find here. You can also report anonymously through Concern Line, which you can find here.

Support Mechanisms

We offer various support mechanisms for those affected by sexual harassment, detailed in the “Accessibility and Support” section of the Bullying and Harassment Policy.

We encourage you to familiarise yourself with the Bullying and Harassment Policy, which includes clear examples of sexual harassment and outlines the reporting procedure.

If you have any questions or need any support regarding this subject, please contact the PPC Department.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for your ongoing commitment to creating a safe and respectful environment for all.
