Enhanced menu for the Book & Latte in 2018

  posted by campus | 21/12/2017

Book & LatteFollowing a hugely successful survey and tasting day, with over 350 survey responses and 540 suggestions, the food and drink offering at the Book & Latte cafe in the David Chiddick Building will be significantly enhanced in the new year.

The Book & Latte will hold on to its popular name and set-up, and while management will be overseen by University Catering, you will continue to be served by Victoria and her team in 2018.

Proud to Serve Starbucks

Those who took part in the survey overwhelmingly voted to keep hold of Starbucks coffee, and so the “We Proudly Serve” concession will stay and staff and students will continue to benefit from low coffee priced coffee.

New Food and Drink Options

There were a lot of suggestions to improve the offer within the outlet, from which seven changes will be made to the menu. These will be introduced during January and February once new equipment is installed and new recipes have been perfected. Catering will draw one name from a hat (or maybe a coffee cup) for each of the below suggestions as a thank you for taking part.

– A homemade and nutritious soup of the day will be offered in the new year to keep the cold weather at bay.

– Smoothies and milkshakes was a popular request, and as there is no fresh smoothie and milkshake offer anywhere else on campus, it will be introduced at the Book & Latte. Get ready to choose your ingredients!

– The range of baked goods will be increased, including sausage rolls, toasties, bagels, filled croissants and Danish Pastries.

– Staff and students have asked for a larger breakfast offering, particularly snack style options, so there will be breakfast burrito wraps, muffins and porridge pots to complement the enhanced bakery selection above.

– Cookies! The request for a range of home baked cookies and cakes to go with the afternoon cup of tea was strong. This will therefore become part of the new menu.

– The classic lunchtime staple of jacket potatoes will return to the cafe, with a hot filling of the day and a selection of cold fillings.

– Finally, there were requests for additional milk options for hot drinks to provide variety and support those with allergies. Almond milk will therefore be added to the soya milk option already available.

Staff and Students will be able to use Quad Loyalty cards in the Book & Latte. Any existing Book & Latte coffee loyalty cards will be honoured until the end of January 2018. Yoyo will be available in the unit so you can pay using your phone and gain loyalty points with each purchase; look out for the new Book & Latte vouchers appearing on Yoyo in the New Year. Also, as Book & Latte will be run by the University, there will be no more credit or debit card charges regardless of how much you spend.

If you have further comments or suggestions about the Book & Latte or any other Quad outlet, please share them via the Catering Portal page.
