Students and staff can get involved in an exciting and thought-provoking series of events to celebrate Black History Month 2021 this October.

The University and the Students’ Union have put together a varied calendar of activities for all members of our community to enjoy.

Highlights include a Black History Trail of Lincoln – exploring sites and untold stories of black people in the city – and ‘Ut Pictura Poesis’ – an evening of art and poetry reimagining the Afro-Europeans at the Tudor Court. With a mix of in-person and online events scheduled, there are also reading groups, short stories and discussions taking place throughout October.

Ben Anim, Head of Equality, Inclusion and Diversity at the University, said: “We are incredibly excited to celebrate Black History Month as it provides the opportunity for all within our community to learn about a past, various cultures and people of which they may have little awareness. Black History Month also provides an opportunity to build on our One Community values to develop a diverse and inclusive community within the University and beyond.”

Jacob Diameh, Racial Diversity Officer at Lincoln Students’ Union, said: “This month, I am excited to harness the passion of students, the Students’ Union and the University to celebrate and remember. My aim is that all black and diverse students have a voice, and that equality and diversity is at the forefront of our minds and agendas. I am excited to widen participation and engagement with the Racial Diversity Campaigns Group at the Students’ Union and hope to see as many students as possible taking part in our events and opportunities this month and in the future. Can’t wait to meet you all!”
