Reminder: Monitoring Attendance in the Autumn Term
For the 20/21 academic year, a blended approach to teaching will be delivered which will combine digital resources, interactions, collaborations and activities alongside face to face learning opportunities, with the option to extend face to face delivery where possible or increase online and remote delivery if necessary. This agile and flexible delivery model has required the development of the Student Attendance System (SAS) to allow digital monitoring of student attendance, flexibly, whether on campus or online.
The University already had plans to pilot a new attendance solution to replace the current paper based signature system and implement a new Wi-Fi based tracking system. To support the change in approach to teaching, phase one of the development for the new attendance solution has been brought forward and will be implemented for the start of the autumn term. The additional network usage will be progressed as phase two and three of the development in the future.
Phase one will look to utilise the use of a unique access code to register attendance. These codes will be automatically generated for each compulsory timetabled event and will be available to academics and professional support staff via a new attendance website: https://attendance.lincoln.ac.uk/. Academic staff will also receive a weekly email containing their upcoming compulsory timetabled events and corresponding access codes.
The code will be broadcast by the tutor at the beginning of each session and students will log into the attendance website via their phone, tablet or laptop and use this code to verify their attendance. Once the code is entered by the student, the data will automatically be recorded within the SAMs solution. A video guide for staff can be found on Microsoft Stream at this link: https://lncn.ac/r39Â
The polices for recording absence (both illness and authorised) will remain the same for the immediate future and the usual attendance monitoring reports are still available to Schools via the Portal.
Training sessions have been held for colleagues. If you have any questions please contact Caroline Connell (Academic Registry) or Annie Mitchell.
