Patience Agbabi and Telling Tales: Chaucer in the 21st Century

The University of Lincoln’s School of English and Journalism invites you to join us for an evening with one of the UK’s foremost poets, Patience Agbabi, who will read from and talk about her collection Telling Tales, a modern adaptation of one the popular British medieval texts, Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales.

Patience Agbabi has spent over 20 years celebrating the written and spoken word.  She studied English Language and Literature at Pembroke College, Oxford University, and is a former Poet Laureate of Canterbury. Her writing and performance has been featured on radio and TV worldwide. The author of four books, her latest, Telling Tales (Canongate, 2014), is a vivid retelling of Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales for the 21st century and was shortlisted for the Ted Hughes Prize for New Work in Poetry 2014 and Wales Book of the Year 2015. Following a launch at Southwark Cathedral, Patience toured the book with producers Renaissance One to literary festivals and venues across the UK. Mining the Middle-English masterwork for its performance as well as its poetry and pilgrims, her boisterous and lyrical collection gives one of Britain’s most significant works of poetry thrilling new life.
