Reflections on the First Year of the Trump Presidency
A year into his presidential term, the Donald Trump phenomenon continues to capture headlines on an almost daily basis, usually as a result of his social media activity. But beyond the noise of tweets, how far has Trump transformed the office and country over which he presides? Join us for expert reflections on three aspects of Trump’s first year in office relating to:
- Trump and issues of race (Dr Lorenzo Costaguta, University of Birmingham)
- Trump and international relations (Dr David Hughes, University of Lincoln)
- Trump and the courts (Dr Emma Long, University of East Anglia)
The free event will take place at 6pm on Monday 12th March in the Jackson Lecture Theatre, Minerva Building. The event has been co-sponsored by the City of Lincoln Branch of the Historical Association and everyone is welcome to attend.
Speaker biographies:
Dr Lorenzo Costaguta is a Teaching Fellow at the University of Birmingham. His research focuses on ideas of class and race in the socialist movement across the world. He is currently completing his first monograph, provisionally titled The Origins of Colorblind Socialism: Race and Class in American Socialist Thought, 1877-1899.
Dr David Hughes is a Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Lincoln. A regular commentator on US foreign policy, his research interests include US exceptionalism, 9/11, and International Relations theory.
Dr Emma Long is a Lecturer in American Studies at the University of East Anglia. Her research focuses on US legal and constitutional history and she has published on church/state issues and American gun politics.
