Subash Chellaiah, the University’s Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Coordinator has been named as the recipient of an annual international peace prize.

The Rotary International Peace Award, which will be presented at this year’s Llangollen International Music Festival in North Wales, recognises individuals or organisations who have contributed to the furtherance of peace and understanding of people across the world.

The accolade is awarded by Rotary International, a global organisation that encourages people across the world to make a positive lasting impact on their communities. The organisation supports a range of international projects including the improvement of literacy through and promotion of peace through to work to improve water, sanitation and public health.

Subash, who will collect the award at a ceremony at the music festival on 4th July said: “I am thrilled to hear that I will be the recipient of the Rotary International Peace Award at Llangollen.  It is great to be recognised for all the work I have done over the last 15 years working with humanitarian intervention which has included Tsunami relief and rehabilitation work, rebuilding communities, setting up self-help groups, trauma counselling and setting up a school called Little Elephant which now has over 100 pupils studying from different communities.

“Through this work I was able to help to bring peace in the community through education and provide better opportunities for people’s lives. My work continued with my involvement in setting up a project in Lincoln, The Centre for Reconciliation, as well as my continuous work with communities through the university. I feel where I am at the moment I am imparting my dream and aspiration for the world for unity, peace and stability.”
